The strange tingling coursed through Sara’s body. She felt her throat close up as she gasped for air. Her vision began to blur as what felt like acid coursed through her blood stream. Through her fading senses she heard Jonathan uttering a spell.
“Telum of lux lucis!” Suddenly a beam of light shot the biting creature, launching it into the nearest wall. Without any support Sara collapsed to the ground.
“Light arrows? A little beginner, don’t you think, Jon?”
“There’s more where that came from, Victor,” he replied.
Victor laughed at the threat as he peeled himself off the wall. He felt a shift under his feet. He quickly looked down to see the rafter he was standing on come to life and ram a spike through his chest. He slumped; dead, but only for a second as he latched back on to life. “Close, but no heart!” He slowly moved himself off of the spike. Once back on his feet he watched the hole in his chest mend itself. “What’s next, Rob? Garlic?”
Robert turned to his ally. “Jon, get the girl!”
Jonathon nodded in agreement. “Levity.” Jon flew up to the fallen Sara.
Robert slapped on the clod cement, transmutating a hammer. “Come on, Vic!” he taunted. “Show me what you got!”
Victor chuckled as he simulated slitting his own throat. “First I kill you. Then I save my new bride.” With those words he jumped the tremendous distance to the floor. He strolled ever closer to Robert grinning. He brought his hand up in a claw like fashion and launched at Robert.
Robert braced himself, waiting for his former friend. As soon as he sensed the beast was close enough, he raised the hammer and brought it down with great force. He heard the cracking of Victor’s skull against the reformed concrete and immediately jumped back. As he landed, he felt pain rush across his chest. He gripped it, letting his hammer fall. He looked down to see his hand stained with crimson. “Damn!” he cursed under his breath. He looked up to see Victor looming over him.
“You slowed down, Rob.”
“And you slipped further into the darkness.”
Seeing his friend almost fall below him, Jon knew he had to hurry. He whipped out a bottle form a sack sow to his hip. He dipped his fingers into the clear liquid while praying an enchantment. Hope this works, he thought as he glided his hand over Sara’s neck wound. He took a deep breath and jutted his five fingers around the bite marks. <“Five Pronged Sealing Spell! Dispel the beast!”>*
Sara screamed out, but her voice morphed from that of a beast to normal.
Victor looked over his shoulder in fear. “No,” he whispered.
“Ancient Japanese magic does wonders for sealing spells,” Robert rasped. “Sent your newborn wife straight to Hell.” He laughed.
Victor sniffed the air. “I can still smell her essence.”
“Like you can persuade her,” Jon’s voice echoed from the rafters. He let down Sara; sleeping. “Levity.” He glided down to the two.
“I’ll kill you!” Victor raised his hands. Twenty three pairs of eyes shimmered from the darkness in his cloak. “May I introduce my own personal gift from Dracula himself, the twenty three dogs of Hell!” Twenty three identical black Dobermans jumped through Victor’s cloak at Robert and Jon. They glared their blood red eyes at their new prey.
“Jon, what do we do?” Robert asked as he started to back toward the wall.
“It’s a high class summoning,” Jon muttered.
“Yeah,” Robert quipped, “an open portal straight to the underworld.”
Jon glanced up at Sara, lying on the rafter. “We do what we do best.”
The two braced themselves as the beasts charging at them. Robert clapped and slammed his hand on the wall beside him. Suddenly a giant fist erupted from it. It slammed into a group of the Dobermans, crashing them into the opposite wall. Robert’s smile quickly changed to a frown as he saw the dark blood dripping from the indentation reformed into the Dobermans that were just destroyed.
“Jon, alchemy doesn’t do squat,” Robert whispered over his shoulder, but he only heard a spell in response.
“Evictum.Lightning engulfed a small group of the dogs as they suddenly stopped and howled out in pain. “Solor lux lucis.” A flash of light as bright as the sun erupted from his staff and engulfed the bound hell hounds. They barked loudly as they disappeared in the light. “Looks like they’re vulnerable to sunlight.”
“Shadow creatures?” Robert asked.
Jon smiled.
“Looks like Dracula screwed you over, Victor.” Robert smiled as he laid his hand on the wall again. The ceiling pealed open, revealing the light of the rising sun. The remaining dogs whimpered as they evaporated.
Victor raised his face to the glaring sunlight as he caught the faint sulfur scent left by the dogs. “Who needs a bunch of second rate mutts, anyway?” He glared down to his former friends. “I’d much rather drain you myself.” His fangs glistened as he stepped forward. He barely noticed a figure rushing towards him. By the time he noticed he was slammed into the cold stone.
