The lightning flashed across the dark and gloomy sky. A small car zoomed through the ocean of rain beneath. Its tires slid across the short bridge. In this small vehicle sat a family of three. A small boy pouted in his seat. His mother looked back at him and smiled.
“You like your new glasses, Jon?” she asked in a fading English accent.
“No,” the boy pouted. “I hate them.”
The boy’s mother only laughed in response. She turned back to her spouse who was huddled over trying to navigate his way through the storm. “Hear that, Richard? Your son hates his new glasses.” She winked at him through her own pair.
“Come on, Jon.” Richard relaxed a bit. “If you didn’t have them you would be as blind as a bat.” He quickly glanced over the seat, exposing his own pair propped on his nose.
That exact moment, young Jonathan felt a lump in his throat.
“Richard, look out!” At that instant the car crashed into something. It was sent flying, still intact with its three passengers. Amongst the panic and crack of thunder Jonathan heard a soft familiar voice: “Congelo.”
The vehicle seemed to freeze in midair for a second before crashing upside down. Jon watched as his new glasses flew from his face. He heard the windows shatter. “Mommy?!” his voice was horse. He heard nothing in response. His eyes started to tear. “Mommy!!” he cried out again.
He heard the strange voice from before almost in a response to his cries: “Beatus vos.”
His body started to warm up as he felt the ground shake around him. With his blurred vision he looked out the back blown out window to see an almost invisible figure step towards the wreak. The rain gave it a figure. Jon closed his eyes tight as it loomed over the destroyed car. The next second the sound of twisting metal filled his ears. It was hell.
