Legends of the Batman #13 Questionable Justice Part 1: Written By: Justin Muise Edited By: Mike Bowen The day lingers on in the lonely hours before darkness falls on Gotham City. Usually during the day, Wayne Manor would be a quiet place, with only the ruffling sounds of Alfred dusting. Bruce Wayne usually sleeps most of the day away. But things have changed. "Again!" Bruce says to Dick Grayson as he drops his staff. "You hit it too hard! I can't hold it if you keep hitting it like that" Dick states as he begins to defend himself. "These are the things you don't understand Dick. Out there they’re not going to take mercy on you. If you can't hold your own you will fall. Now... Again!" As Dick begins to pick up his staff he hears Bruce's footsteps running toward him. He looks up just in time to block a swing from Bruce’s staff. He pushes his opponent away then gets up with his staff held ready. "Again!" yells Dick. *****

As he walks into the dark room Dick Grayson can feel his heart beating. He's scared and doesn't even know why. He can hear someone talking in the distance but doesn't know who it is or even what there saying. Dick walks closer to the shadowy figure he can barely make out in the dark. "You made me this, destroyed whatever part of me that was human. You'll pay Boy Wonder!" Harvey Dent says as he turns around facing the young boy with his now disfigured face. Dick screams as he rises out of bed. It was all a dream. After a few minutes he walks downstairs to get a drink of water. He thinks about going to see if Bruce is in his room but then realizes its 3 a.m. and the Batman would never be home at this time. ****

Jeff Sales is a small time drug enforcer. He has always thought it wasn't a big deal, especially with everything else that goes on in Gotham City, but what he doesn't know is that the Batman doesn't see it the same way. Jeff pulls out a cigarette from his pack, as he lights it he shoots straight up into the air. "AAAAHHHHH" Jeff screams until he stops rising. His eyes are closed. As he begins to open them he realizes he’s staring straight into the eyes of the Batman. "You're going to tell me how and where all these drugs reached Gotham so fast," the Batman states as he glares into Jeff's eyes. "What are talking about? There have always been drugs in Gotham," Jeff pleads as tears start to well in his eyes. "You think I don't notice when things change in my city! Drugs have escalated over 75% in the last month. But you already knew that didn't you. Now you know that I know. Where they are coming from!" "The docks, it's from the docks! There’s this new guy calls himself Two-Face or something like that... Come on let me go. I’ll stop selling just please... " As Jeff pleads close-eyed with Batman, he’s suddenly back on the ground. He doesn't dare to look up. It wouldn't matter if he did, the Batman is gone. ****

Gotham Docks, 4:23 a.m. The Batman silently looks over all the movements at the Gotham City docks from his perch high above the action. Using night-vision to allow him to stay cloaked in the shadows, he watches, waiting for any sign of Two-Face or the drugs which he was told would be moving through here. Nothing yet. Jeff would not have lied, no one lies when I question them. Maybe he ran back... told them I was coming. I can't see that, but just maybe... He places small camera near his position to tape the any events that will unfold that night. It may be early for the Batman, but Bruce Wayne has an morning meeting at Wayne Enterprises. ****

"Master Bruce. It is nearly time for your meeting." "I know Alfred I’m ready to leave. I'm just thinking about the docks. I watched all of the footage from last night and there was nothing out of the ordinary. I know the man I questioned was telling the truth but I’m having a hard time figuring out why there was nothing going on last night." Just as Bruce begins to walk to the door, Dick comes down the stairs just waking up. "Well look who just woke up. You know you’re in training. You should be up earlier and practicing what I have taught you." "I would do that, but how do I train without my trainer,” Dick said with a hint of anger. He locks eyes with Bruce, not backing down. "What’s the matter Dick? You don't sound like your usual self? I don't have to explain my actions and if you want to be my partner on this that’s something you’re going to have to underst...." Bruce stops talking as he opens the door revealing a letter taped to the other side. "Master Wayne, what is that?" "I don't know Alfred. It looks as though the Batman may have a new mystery to solve. I think it may be time you cancel my meeting at Wayne Enterprises." Bruce says as he looks down at the letter. "Who would leave something like this?" Dick questions as Bruce holds up the letter, marked with a question mark. To be continued...
