Unlimited Legends #13 Meet The Doom Patrol Part Two Written by Gman12 Edited by Daniel Dyer Featuring... Doom Patrol Headquarters- The PresentThe building was silent except for one man, Niles “the Chief” Caulder. Alone in his library the wheelchair bound man contemplated the whereabouts of his three “charges”. He knew that after a long battle the group that had become known as the Doom Patrol liked to go out for a celebration, but each time the Chief had attempted to talk them out of it stating that they were different from everybody else and no matter how many times they saved the world, the people would still lump them among other unsavory characters such as the Brotherhood Of Evil. Of course, every time, they disregard him. By now they’ve been gone for two hours, and the thought had occurred to the Chief that maybe he should go out looking for them. No, the Chief thought. Best to let them learn on their own the cruelty that mankind can lead to.Still, even though the Chief loathed how cruel people could be, he still felt the need to protect the world around him, and possibly himself for good measure. That is why he began to create the Doom Patrol in the first place. <>

Negative Man- The Past From the moment that he first heard about space travel, Larry Trainor had always wanted to be an astronaut. That is why the first thing out of high school, Larry went straight to Space Camp. His biggest dream was to be one of the greatest astronauts right alongside Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin. One day his dream had all but seemed to come true. “We want you to test our newest rocket,” said one of the scientists. “With it we should finally be able to get up there amongst the stars and take pictures from Pluto and beyond.” “We could finally figure out just how big our universe is,” said another scientist. Larry was honored and immediately went right to work training for the big mission. He did every test sometimes two or three times just to make sure that everything would go out without a hitch. Finally it was time for the rocket to fly. Larry said goodbye to his girlfriend before leaving for the mission. He didn’t tell her, however, that when he came back the “conquering hero” he was going to ask her for her hand in marriage. However, nobody, not even Larry could expect that years of nuclear waste polluting the sky mixed with the ozone layer would cause the end of everything normal in Larry’s life. Turbulence soon fueled the ship and Larry tried to gain control before he lost consciousness and the ship headed back to Earth. Larry woke up in a hospital bed confused about what went on, his face lightened up when his girlfriend entered the room. He happily held her close as he told her he had a surprise to tell her. However as he reached for his ring with one hand while his other held his girl’s, he was shocked when he saw his hand change from flesh to a weird glowing energy. He then heard the scream behind him, and as he turned he saw to his horror his terrified girlfriend backing away, holding her burned hand gingerly against her chest. “Stay away from me,” she shouts. “I never want to see you again!” From then on, Larry’s life was a saddened blur. From his first meeting with the Chief, to the applying of the bandages, to his first mission as a member of the Doom Patrol. From that moment on Larry Trainor was no more. Negative Man was born. <>

The Doom Patrol Headquarters- The Present When his team returned the Chief asked where they had been. “We just went to a movie,” Negative Man said, “and don’t worry, no one spotted us, we were in the back row.” “What’s the urgency Chief?” Robotman asked. “I have reason to believe that those two men you stopped from robbing the museum yesterday have broken out of prison,” the Chief said, “and joined the Brotherhood Of Evil.” The Doom Patrol glanced at each other, and asked the Chief if he has any leads on where they might strike next. “Dayton Manor,” said the Chief. <>

Elasti-Girl- The Past Rita Farr was an actress, famous for her roles in several B-movie pictures. Having been known to be a pretty versatile actress, she could take on the role of both “Damsel In Distress” and “Evil Villainess”, with ease. One day her agent sent her the script for a film called “Son of Kong”, a movie that was filming in Africa. “And they want you to play the main female lead,” her agent said. Filming began in Africa later that week and Rita was on the first boat out there. Rumors came from the natives that one of their volcanoes, long thought dormant had the possibility to erupt again, but the film crew didn’t take it seriously. As it turns out the volcano didn’t erupt but it did let loose some former gaseous energy that had been held in there. When news of that spread everyone went looking for their leading lady, and they found her, unconscious near a small geyser-like volcano. When Rita awoke she was shocked by the people around her. She became even more shocked when, as she got to her feet, she realized that everyone around her was getting smaller. Or, more to the point, she was getting larger. As everyone ran away with fear Rita stayed put, afraid of crushing one of her co-stars. When everyone else returned to America, Rita stayed there, not wanting to cause too much fear to her fans. It wasn’t that long before the Chief heard rumors of Rita’s plight in Africa, and so, with the other members of his burgeoning Doom Patrol, he sailed to Africa to meet up with her. After a few days of tests and other things, Rita soon learned how to control her size-changing powers. Then, given the name Elasti-Girl, Rita joined the Doom Patrol. <>

Dayton Manor- Prague- The Present The Brotherhood Of Evil were standing on the outskirts of Dayton Manor when Warp asked, “Why are we here anyway?” “We’re here to steal Steve Dayton’s most prized possession, the Mento Helmet.” Madame Rouge replied. “What’s so important about a helmet,” Plasmus asked. “With the helmet we can begin going about giving the Brain a new body,” answered Monsieur Malla. “Oh, really. I thought he was born a brain in a jar,” joked Warp. Before Monsieur Malla could react to Warp’s callous remark the Brain called out, “Enough bickering, let’s get this done before that cursed Doom Patrol shows up.” <>

As the Doom Patrol make their way down to Prague, Negative Man notices Elasti-Girl looking at her face nervously in the mirror. “What are you doing,” he asks. “Nothing, I just don’t want to make a bad impression on Mr. Dayton,” answers a nervous Elasti-Girl. Robotman and Negative Man glanced at each other knowing full well that their partner is interested in more then saving the millionaire. <>

Finally they arrived there, to find Dayton tied up and the Brotherhood of Evil surrounding him. Monsieur Malla was wearing the “Mento Helmet” instead of his usual beret. “All right Doom Patrol,” said Robotman. “It’s time to fight.” Negative Man went after Madame Rouge, while Elasti-Girl took on Warp and Plasmus, and Robotman went after Monsieur Malla. “Freeze, ‘Tin Man’,” Monsieur Malla proclaimed, and instantly Robotman froze. Monsiur Malla laughed as he then used his new powers on the rest of the Doom Patrol freezing each of them in their place. “Now, we will get you a new body Brain and we shall rule the world,” Monsieur Malla proclaimed. “Not if I have anything to say about it,” a mysterious voice said. Just then Negative Man knocked the Mento Helmet off Monsieur Malla’s head thereby freeing the others from its control. “But how did you do that if I froze you like the others?” Monsieur Malla asked. “You might have frozen my physical body, but my ‘inner body’ was able to move about at will,” Negative Man answers. However, before The Doom Patrol could tie their foes up, a remote controlled plane broke through the wall and the Brotherhood escaped. “I don’t know how I can thank you for saving me and my Mento Helmet,” Steve Dayton said. “Well you can start by making sure that helmet thingie of yours never falls into the wrong hands again,” Robotman answers. “Will do,” Dayton says. “Just remember, if any of you needs help that Steve Dayton is at the Doom Patrol’s service.” So the Doom Patrol heads back to headquarters wondering just what nefarious deeds the Brotherhood of Evil could be planning in the near future.
