Legends of the Green Lantern Corps #14 Written By Ryan Bush Edited By Mike Bowen It had been another long day at Ferris, and Hal Jordan couldn’t wait to get home and watch some TV. What he wasn’t sure what was on right now, he would probably just flip though the channels until something would catch his eye. Or that’s what he thought would happen as he opened his locker, not really paying attention to the big man sitting on the bench. “Hello, poozer, we need to talk.” Slowly Hal turned around and decided to take a closer look at the big man; suddenly it dawned on him who it was. Kilowog. “Put it on, and let’s get out of here,” “Why?” questioned our hero. “I got a message for you from our bosses, and its kinda important, so suit up and lets go,” he responded with a growl that would make the toughest drill sergeant soil himself and then floated though the ceiling. Hal willed his ring to materialize on his finger, and with it his uniform, and he followed Kilowog though the roof. ****

Above the city Hal found Kilowog waiting for him, holding a ring and a power battery in one of his hands. “Whose are those for, I already have a ring and batt…” begin Hal. “Shut up poozer, these ain’t for you, there for your Alternate.” “My what?” “Your Alternate, your back-up, in case something happened to you, he will be able to guard your sector until you can again, got it?” “Yeah, I guess that makes sense, but how do I find him?” “Just instruct the ring to find him and it will.” “Okay,” said Hal as he received the ring and battery. Then willed them to teleport to his home. I’ll just find him later.“Hey, poozer, follow me into space.” “Why?” “Just fraggin’ follow me,” Can’t argue with cussing that I don’t understand.****

SpaceEven though Hal had been off-plant many times he still can’t help but be in awe whenever he looked down on Earth. “Be seein’ ya poozer,” said Kilowog as he was getting ready to open a warp. “Wait why did you drag me out here for?” asked Hal. “Well there is a meteor hurtling towards your little plant that you may want to stop.” “Wha…Ring is there really meteor heading this way” <<Confirmed>> said the ring in the voice of its previous owner, Abin Sur. “Okay, well I guess I owe you one Kil,” said Hal with just a hint of laughter. “It’s a rookie mistake, I hope that next time I visit that there will actually be something here to visit,” and with that Kilowog entered the warp. Now to handle that meteor. ****

Jordan had a plan, he was just going to wait for here, then push the meteor out the way Earth’s way, problem solved, or so he thought. Finally the meteor was within sight, and then Hal noticed that the meteor was yellow. Ok that's different, I guess someone didn’t want a Green Lantern to stop it. But since it isn’t a problem for me... Hal willed a huge hand of green light into existence and was ready to just bat the meteor out of the way. But suddenly the meteor shot a huge blast of energy at our hero, and Hal quickly put up a shield to stop the bolt. It did but suddenly something alive hit Hal in the back of the head, and he then began to fall to the Earth unconscious. ****

The Next Morning Carol Ferris didn’t like this. One of her best test pilots was missing today. When her father left on his world jog, he had entrusted his airfield to her. But her mind seemed to rarely be on work these days, but on a certain Green hero. “Ma’am there is a Tom Kalmaku here to see you,” said a male voice over the intercom. “See him in Mr. Smith,” she responded. A tall man opened the door and Ferris couldn't help but think of the Men in Black whenever she saw her secretary. With the suit and the sunglasses he is always wearing he could pass as one of them any day. But it was the man behind him that she wanted to see. Compared to Mr. Smith he was much shorter and was wearing a grey jumpsuit covered in Grease, not a nice, dry cleaned suit. “Hello, Mr. Kalmaku, please sit down,” she said as she motioned him to a chair. “Ahm... thanks, but really I should be getting back to work, Jordan found some kinks in the plane he was test piloting the other day and…” “Actually I wanted to talk to you about Jordan, Kalmaku. Do you know where he is?” “Uh…What do you mean?” “Well Mr. Jordan-Test Pilot Extraordinaire, didn’t clock in today, and I was wondering if you know where he was.” “Um…No…Ma’am, I thought he was just, I don’t know, sick or something, or maybe on vacation” “Well if he is…” Carol never got to finish what she was about to say because suddenly there was a loud rumbling and then something came crashing into one of the hangers. Mr. Smith came running into the office. “Something just crashed into Hanger 3,” Mr. Smith said calmly. “Oh…I guess I owe you a thank you Mrs. Ferris,” said Kalmaku to his boss. “Why?” asked Ferris quizzical. “Well…uh…I was working in Hanger 3 before you called me.” “Oh.” ****

Somewhere in South America Hal Jordan didn’t know exactly where he was, only that he had a few hours charge left in his ring and that he needed to find someplace to recharge. He flew into the sky and heading in the direction that he hoped was home. ****

A Few Hours Later Hal arrived at his home and headed towards his power battery. “Ring, how much time do I have left?” <<Only the equivalent of 2 of your Earth minutes>> That was close. After reciting his oath and then putting his battery away. He spied the other Battery and ring that Kilowog had given him. I guess now is a good of a time as ever.Picking up the ring he willed it to go to worthy candidate. I remember Kilowog telling me that three were chosen, but since I was closer I got the job, I wonder who the other two where. As if by magic the ring suddenly took off. So Hal turned on the TV, instantly getting converge about the meteor that crashed into Ferris’s Hanger 3. I guess a Green Lantern’s work is never done.Donning his suit he heads to the airfield. ****

At the crash site, Ferris was barking orders left and right. She was trying to help anyone who might of survived the crash. Final reinforcements arrived in the way of a certain Emerald clad warrior. Green Lantern was having no trouble moving the rubble, but suddenly some of the boulders started to move themselves. Then a red arm poked it way though. Then there was dozens of them. Slowly they raised themselves above the rubble, tall metal robots clad in red with silver faces. Then with one voice they began to chant “No Man Escapes the Manhunters” over and over again. ****

Though Ferris was paying more attention to the red robots that were chanting something about escaping, she couldn’t help but notice, that for the first ever since she had hired her secretary, she actually, for a second, saw him smile. To Be Continued...
