Stop: Don’t read this until you have read the Supreme: Man of Destiny One-Shot
Standing in Darius’s main office, Supreme looks out the window of the massive skyscraper, overlooking Omegapolis. The sun has begun to set, and all the buildings and streetlights have been lit up. “It’s good to see you Ethan. It’s been a really long time.” It has been a long time... twelve years actually. He’s not sure if he should be happy that Darius knows who he is. He wants to be happy, but for some reason he’s scared. The moment Darius said those words, the hairs stood up on the back of his neck, and the butterflies started to flutter. He’s tried to calm himself, but for some reason, the anxiety won’t go away.
Turning to face Darius, he smiles, “I wondered if you’d recognize me...”
Laughing, Darius replies, “Come on, Ethan, it’s been a long time, but not that long. The white hair kind of threw me, but then I remembered seeing you at the hospital back in Littlehaven. You had white hair then, too. Obviously the meteors got you.”
“Yeah...”
“So, what have you been up to? I see you’ve decided to present yourself as a superhero. You always did have an unhealthy obsession with comic books.”
“I’ve... I spent some time traveling. After...” Ethan tries to force the memory away, body bags, “...after everything that happened back home... Well, I didn’t know where to go. The abilities that I had were new. I couldn’t control them, one moment I’d be a normal teenager, the next I could crush a man’s hand with a simple handshake. I was... afraid, and frankly, I was dangerous... so I ran away. After spending some time in Asia... Tibet actually, I went to Europe. I lived on the streets in Prague for a while... that was pretty interesting. I spent a long time in Africa as well. I wanted to know where I fit in, what my place was.”
Darius shakes his head in understanding, “After the meteor shower, I was put into foster care. I tried to fit in with everyone, but it’s a tough system. After I lost touch with you, I devoted every moment of my time to my studies.”
“Looks like you’ve done well for yourself.”
“Amazingly well, actually. I graduated from high school with a perfect GPA. I also took part in a lot of scientific competitions, winning every single one, I’m proud to say. And I already had three essays published.”
“I read them.”
With a sarcastic smirk, Darius answers, “Really? Didn’t know they had Scientific Journal over in Tibet.”
There’s those butterflies again. Replying with the same sarcasm, “They don’t, but it’s pretty easy for me to fly in under the radar.”
“Hah... I don’t doubt that. Anyway, with my academic achievements, it was nothing for me to get accepted to a great school. I didn’t even have to pay anything... which is probably pretty good since I didn’t have a dime to my name.” Smiling, Darius walks to the windows, looking out over the skyline. “Hell of a view, ain’t it? Well, it’s probably nothing new to you.”
“Omegapolis has a beauty that’s pretty hard to get used to.”
“Yes, it does... yes it does. College was a breeze. I flew right through, getting a perfect GPA there. After that, I dedicated my studies to business. Once I sold a few patents to NASA and the Pentagon, I had all the capitol I needed to get Dax Industries off the ground, and here I am.”
“So what made you want to go into politics?”
“Well, Ethan, if you follow me to my private elevator, I have something I would like to show you.”
