A threat to the entire planet. “Uh... Slade... we have a problem,” comes Captain Boomerang’s voice over a communicator. “What is it, Digger?” Silence. “Digger?” Then a tied up Captain Boomerang gets thrown down in front of Deathstroke. “I believe that belongs to you.” Slade turns, seeing the Batman standing behind him. “Along way from Gotham.” “In town on unfinished business.” “Right. Be with you in a moment,” says Deathstroke as he aims his rifle once again. Batman begins to advance, but is halted by Killer Croc, who grabs him from behind. “Ya miss me, Batboy?” ***

On the streets of Metropolis. “AARRGH!” screams Superman as he’s being drained by the Parasite. “Yum. The raw power. Love it,” declares the Parasite. On the sidelines watches Chloe Sullivan. Damn. Where is he? That thing will kill Clark. Chloe looks around and notices the struggle on the rooftop. Great. Screw non-involvement. I’m not letting Clark die. And Director Sullivan sneaks up on Livewire. “Hey, spark plug.” “Huh?” “Director Chloe Sullivan of the Department of Extranormal Opporations. You, are under arrest.” “Oh, really?” Livewire questions as sparks shoot from her eyes. That’s it, get mad. Chloe knows what she’s doing. She’s sparred with the DEO’s own electric-based agent, Jefferson Pierce. She knows how to handle electric attacks and can avoid such attacks, albeit if she’s a fraction of a second off... Well, it could be disastrous. For herself and for Clark. Livewire zaps at the DEO director, only for Chloe to dodge just in time, the zap hitting Parasite. “AAAHHHHH!!!!” screams Parasite as that causes Parasite’s body to instinctively begin to drain Livewire. Superman, regaining from the attack, turns and punches the Parasite, knocking him back. ***

“Dammit!” Slade turns on his communicator. “Freeman, this is Wilson. The element of surprise is compromised. There is also a couple of unforeseen obstacles.” Deathstroke eyes Chloe. “No, nothing we can’t take care of,” Slade turns to where Croc is holding the Dark Knight. “Wilson out.” “What’s this about, Wilson?” Slade punches the Bat square in the jaw. “That’s on a need to know basis.” Punching him again. “You, my friend, do not need to know.” The Batman turns his head and spits out blood. He’s going over the scenario in his head, surveying his options. The Bat then kicks his foot up, but Slade catches it easily. “That’s it? From the legendary Batman? Did you really think I wouldn’t catch that?” “No. I was actually counting on it,” and the Dark Knight kicks up his other foot, hitting Slade in the head, knocking him down. Using his new leverage, the Bat’s able to flip Croc, sending him over the building, and crashing down on a parked car. Slade gets to his feet. “Now, that’s what I may expect of the myth.” Deathstroke unsheathes his sword. ***

As the fighting has now turned in the heroes’ favor, Dr. Polaris hovers over it all, watching and waiting. He begins to focus his attention on Livewire. ***

On the ground, as Superman stands over Parasite. He is weakened but not defeated. That could change as Livewire pours on the juice. “AARRGH!!” “Fry! Fry! FRYYYY!!!” When suddenly the energy stops. “What...?” Superman turns to her. “Battery running low?” “No... I mean... I charged up... before...” “Now, Rudy,” booms the voice of Polaris from high above. And with that Parasite grabs Superman from behind, beginning to drain the boy scout into unconsciousness. Polaris glides down and grabs Livewire. “Take these two back to base.” He looks over to Croc who is beginning to stir. “I believe that Waylon and I can take care of our dueling ‘friends’.” ***

Slade swings his sword and the Bat blocks it on the armor of his glove, sparks flying. “Give it up, Wilson! I will not let this continue!” “Like you have a choice,” Slade swinging his sword one way, while his fist goes the other way, hitting the Bat once more. “I’m past the peek of human perfection. I’m beyond it! You are just at the peek, my mythic combatant. You cannot...” But Slade is cut short as the lights go out. The entire city is blacked out. All except for a spot above the city. In the center of the city. Polaris. Charged, and generating energy. “What’s he doing, Wilson?” “I... I don’t know.” Slade, pushes the communicator button. “Freeman. What’s going on.” But before Freeman answers, the Bat and Deathstroke see an electrical grid beginning to spread over the city like a dome. “People of Metropolis,” booms Polaris’s voice once more. “As of now, Metropolis is our hostage...” Continued in Legends of Superman #12
