The Sensational Spider-Girl #3 Written by Sononsj Edited by Daniel Dyer Once upon a time, Eddie Brock had it made. He was the star reporter for the Daily Globe, a young prodigy well on his way to a Pulitzer. Aye, once upon a time. That time is come and long gone. Now, Eddie Brock has joined the ranks of New York’s vast homeless population. And he is cursed with a symbiotic other. He has considered selling it, perhaps auctioning it off. But it would too easily land in the wrong hands, and besides, he would not want someone to suffer the same curse he was suffering. He had also considered suicide, but was afraid of going to Hell. Brock was a faithful Catholic, and he hated he symbiote for the pain it had inflicted not only on himself, but on the countless innocents. But no, he told himself, they weren’t innocents. He had only hurt those who preyed on the innocent. He had always used his power responsibly, hadn’t he? *

May Reilly-Tyne was very confused. She didn’t know who to trust, or where she turned to. But when she saw the body in the alleys, she knew she had to act. This was New York, and scenes like this were common. Except… the man had no wounds on him. She was about to ask a passing stranger if she could borrow a cell phone to call 911 when she noticed a puddle of black goo near by. It was convulsing in pain, but seemed better when she went near it, as if her confusion and hate made it happy. For some reason, May couldn’t get her mind off of it. She was obsessed with it. It was all that mattered. She had found a stick to prod it with. When she started to poke it, it shrunk back, scared, reluctant. Suddenly it was alive with fury, love, hate, it needed May. It sped up the sick and onto her arm faster than she could jump back. Thoughts sped into her mind as it covered her body, thoughts not entirely her own. Her poor father. He was a hero, and he had died while trying to save innocent lives. No he wasn’t! I hate my father! He abandoned me and left us to die!
But he had a responsibility!
A responsibility to me…?
Exactly! Which he ignored!
No! He was a hero!
Some hero! He was never there for me!
He had a duty!
He loved me!
Nobody loves you! Then the thing which inhabited her body paused. This blood… it was familiar. It had encountered it before. And then May knew. Her father was the Scarlet Spider. She tried to come to grips with this, that the thing she now was had tried to murder her father. She couldn’t. Instead she turned once more to the body. It wasn’t dead yet… and somehow she knew. The thing… it wanted to be with him. No matter. She could fix that. She did. The body of Edward Brock was found in the dumpster. *

May Reilly-Tyne was on a near-by rooftop. This thing she had become- she could not deal with it. It was too much power. Then the image of her father flashed across her mind. She was her father, was his flesh and blood, and she would take on his costume to honor him. She didn’t know how, but her symbiote morphed into the costume of the Scarlet Spider. Then the image of Venom flashed across her mind. She was her father, was his flesh and blood, and she would take on his costume to honor him. She didn’t know how, but her symbiote morphed into the costume of Venom. No! This is all wrong! Ben was her father! No! Brock! Her costume morphed back and forth. Unable to control it, she broke down crying. Her costume kept morphing back and forth. Finally, it seemed to settle on a twisted amalgamation of both. *

"But WHY?! WHY do you hate me so much?! What did I ever do to you?!" inquired May. "This goes back farther than you, May. It involves your father and our death will not only cause him to suffer, but it will end the future line of Parkers. There is no escape from destiny, May. Your father killed mine and it's time I returned the favor. Embrace your destiny, May. Die." Continued...
