Terry follows his attacker/trainer into an old run down garage. “What are we doing here?”
Huntress does not answer and opens the door to a caged elevator. “After you.”
“Kinda low-tech.” Terry steps in, thinking of how something like this was straight out of the history books. He didn’t even know they still made things like this.
Huntress grins as she gets in and closes the door. “Just wait, Boy Wonder.”
“That’s Dark Knight to you,” quips Terry.
“That’s a title you have to earn..” Huntress pushes the down button.
As the cage lowers and they reach their destination, Terry’s mouth falls open.
“Welcome to your very own Batcave, Boy Wonder.”
Terry’s looking around at everything. State-of-the-art computer consoles, armaments galore. Everything is cutting edge. “Schway. This is
the Batcave?” asks Terry.
“No. This is a satellite Batcave. It is one of the few that remain in the city,” Huntress explains. “These were utilizes by Batman shortly after the earthquake that nearly destroyed Gotham City. I’m sure you know your history?”
“Something about the government cutting all ties to the city.”
“Yeah, Gotham became a
no man’s land. What you probably know is how Bruce Wayne rallied with Congress and how Lex Luthor began rebuilding. What’s not in the history books is how Batman and his group, including Oracle, helped keep the ordinary citizens safe while the lunatics ran the city.”
“Oracle? As in whoever gave me the suit?”
Huntress doesn’t respond. “Batman utilized these ‘caves’ during that crisis. Over the years, many of the satellite caves were decommissioned due to remodeling over the past few decades. There was no Batman so Oracle saw no need to keep them. However, Oracle is a sentimental being, which is why this one was kept in tact.”
“What about the real Batcave?”
Huntress walks on. As she enters the room, the lights come on by themselves.
Terry follows her. “I can see you won’t be too forthcoming with...” Terry’s speechless when he sees parked in the cave’s hangar, is a solid black hover-car. A sleek vehicle with fins on the back that look like bat-wings.
“Over the next few months, not only will you be learning to fight without the suit. You’ll also be taught how to handle this.”
“Schway,” is all Terry can say.
“Eventually. You begin with nothing, working your way up,” Huntress explains. “Hand over the suit.”
Terry just stairs at her.
“Now.”
Terry takes off his backpack, taking out the Batman suit and gives it to Huntress.
“Now... let’s begin...”
