Coast City, California- Carol Ferris’s Office
Slowly, and after his ring had done a ton of work on him, Hal Jordan woke up. He bolted up right and noticed that Tom was apparently asleep on the other coach. Then, looking around, he noticed that he was in Carol Ferris’s office.
Carol came running to Hal’s side, and asked, “Are you alright, Green Lantern?”
“Yeah, I think so,” he said as he began to sit up right. “What’s wrong with him?” Hal asked as he pointed to Pieface.
“Oh he is alright, just kinda banged up and unconscious, but he will live.”
Hal remembered what Tom had done; he also knew that Tom’s actions had probably saved his life from the Manhunter.
“Uh, what is that?” Hal asked as he pointed to a huge mechanical mess that was sitting on Carol’s desk.
“That is what you were fighting. They’re not human. they’re robots.”
“That explains the punch,” he said, rubbing his head.
“Hey, Poozer,” said Kilowag as he and the other three Green Lanterns floated in through the broken window.
Needless to say, after seeing a bunch of robots attack the man she secretly wants so much to marry her and after seeing four aliens come flying through the window, she did the only logical thing she could, she fainted.
“So what appears to be the problem here?” asks Salakk, getting right down to business and ignoring the fact that Carol just fainted.
“Well, you see that tangled mess,” Hal said as he pointed to the Manhunter’s carcass spread out on the desk. “Well, they attacked me, and that’s just one of them. I was able destroy a second one, but there are still about maybe 30 of them running around.”
“Your planet hasn’t discovered robotics yet, has it?” asked Salekk as he began to rummage around the broken pieces.
“No, why?” asked Hal.
“What a backwater world this is,” muttered Ch’p under his breath, but everyone still heard him.
“Ch’p, do a scan of the area for the robots. Arisia, check the humans, make sure they’re both alive and OK. And Salakk, just keep looking at the robot,” ordered Kilowag, then turning to Hal. “And what I want from you is a full debriefing.”
Hal began to regal his story from the time Kilowag left (see last ish) up until he was attacked, and even mentioned Tom’s heroics against the Manhunter.
“I found them,” said Ch’p in his high squeaky voice. “They all seem to be heading towards a building called S.T.A.R. Labs.”
“Do you know what they could want there?” asked Kilowag to Hal.
“No, I don’t know of anything that they would be doing that a bunch of high-tech robots would want,” responded Hal.
“Well, whatever it is, we need to stop them. Salekk, you find anything over there,” said Kilowag.
“Well, actually, I have. You see this,” Salekk began as he raised a small green box up, “I believe this is a power source, and if my ring is right, it is about out of power.”
“If all of them are running low on power, then maybe that’s what they are after,” said Hal.
“You may be right, 2814, but how do we stop them?” asked Kilowag.
“Can’t tell. This is too big of a mess to sort through…” began Salekk.
“I get the picture. All right, 2814, can you stand?” asked Kilowag.
“I think so,” said Hal as he stood up. “I guess that confirms it.”
“Good, then the five of us need to stop these ‘Manhunters’, as 2814 called them, and soon,” said Kilowag.
“Do you really think that us five can stop over 30 robots?” asked Arisia.
“We will and…”began Ch’p, but was interrupted by a new voice.
“And what about me?” asked the new voice.
Everyone turned and saw a new Green Lantern floating just outside the window.
A human Green Lantern.
