The Corps training room. For centuries upon centuries, this gym has been the main training ground for new recruits. Some things never change.
“Knock it off, Yat,” G’Hu tells another new recruit.
G’Hu, a violet skinned alien, with clawed, Rapture-like feet, and two long tentacles flowing from the back of his head, all the way down to his feet. Once a prison guard on Takron-Galtos, he was captured by some inmates and held as a hostage. When the other guards came to free G’Hu, they discovered the inmates all incompasitated and G’Hu simply waiting for them to open the doors. It was at that moment a ring of power found him. Now he awaits with other new recruits to begin their training.
“Com’on,” Sodam says while flying around the group, an emerald glow engulfing him.. “Lighten up.”
Sodam Yat. A Daxamite, Sodam always dreamed of one day leaving the confines of his planet. It always seemed like a dream denied until one day, in his youth he came across a crashed space ship. Sodam then took care of the injured pilot in secret, becoming close friends with him. This continued until his parents found out and hastily had the alien killed. Once Sodam found out about this, he promptly began work on his own space craft. Ironically, upon finishing the craft, he was then drafted into the Green Lantern Corps.
“This is a blast!” Sodam declares.
“Come down, please?” B’dg pleads. “Don’t want to get in trouble.”
B’dg is from the planet H'lven, which is dominated by creatures that appear to be anthropomorphic. B’dg appear to look very similar to an Earth squirrel. But don’t let his size fool you. He was chosen for the Green Lantern Corps for a reason.
“Trouble?” questions Sodam. “Ha! We’re Green Lanterns, we laugh at...” he begins when he flies into Kilowog, hovering with his arms folded over his chest, just inside the door way. Hal to his right, with Jennie on his left.
“Recruit! Fall in!” bellows the Bolovian.
Yat then lands beside the other recruits, all in a straight line.
“Ha! ‘We’re Green Lanterns, we laugh at trouble’,” mimics Krydel-4.
Kilowog roars at the small mechanical alien, “IN LINE!”
Krydel-4 wasn’t always a mechanoid. No, that was caused by the Blight. In the far reaches of sector 2106, the Blight was overtaking planets, assimilating every civilization into their robotic drone army. Krydel was assimilated as was any others, but his willpower was so strong he overcame the assimilation and fought along side other freedom fighters to end the Blight’s threat. There should be no wonder as to why Krydel-4 was chosen as his sector’s Green Lantern.
“Yat, we do not need any grand standing in the Corps! You are to follow orders and not show up! We clear?!”
“Yes, Sir!” responds the Daxamite.
“Now, who are we missing?” Kilowog questions as he pulls out a list. “Ah, where’s Bzzd?”
“Right here, sir,” an unseen voice replies.
“Where?”
From seemingly nowhere a huge green magnifying glass appears. Through the lens, Kilowog can see what looks to be a small fly.
“Ha!” Kilowog laughs. “The Corps’ largest member is partnered with the Corps’ smallest!”
Bzzd is from the planet Apiation which resides within sector 2261. Sector 2261 is also the sector assigned to the living planet, Green Lantern Mogo. It will be interesting to see if Bzzd can prove that size doesn’t matter.
“Recruits, meet the new alternative for Sector 2814.”
Jennie then flies down to the others. “Hi... I’m Jennie.”
Sodam is the first upon her. “Hey, how you doin’?” he asks.
Hal watches the look in Yat’s eyes and can’t help but wonder if Daxam gets any Earth TV. Particularly
Friends.
BOOM!“What the...?!”
BOOM!
BOOM!
BOOM!With no explanation, Kilowog bellows, “Poozers, stay here!” Turning to Hal he says, “Jordan, we got trouble.” Not waiting for Hal, the Bolvian takes to the skies.
“Hal, what’s going on?” asks Jennie.
“I don’t know,” he says, “but I’m gonna find out,” and he takes to the sky, following Kilowog.
“So, what now?” questions Yat.
“Now,” starts G’Hu, “we wait for Kilowog’s return.”
“Scream that,” he says, an emerald glow beginning to form around his body.
“We must wait,” Bzzd tries to say.
“You guys can stay here like good little students,” Yat tells them. “Me? I didn’t sign on to stay on the sidelines.” And with that the Daxamite is gone.
