Captain Mar-Vell #2

The bullet ripped against Mar-Vell’s helmet, ricocheting off into a wall. Mar turned quickly to see who had made the attempt on his life, and was stunned by Carol’s presence in his attacker’s place.
“Y--You?!”
Carol leapt at him attempting to strike her fiancé’s vicarious killer, but Marvel’s enhanced speed gave him more then enough time to move out of the way. Marvel’s warrior reaction took over and he grabbed the flailing officer and put her to the ground, hard. It took less then a minute for a shot to be fired to Carol hitting the ground, it stunned her that he could be so devastating. Still Carol struggled back up, her rage building once again for Mark’s death.
As she rose again Mar looked at her, his face darkened by the helmet hid his look of confusion. That confusion subsided though, when he quickly realized the truth of the matter, she blamed Captain Marvel. She couldn’t have seen him change and he had created a cover story before going in the hangar. But no human could have survived that vaporizing blast, and Marvel’s sudden appearance coincided with the Sentries attack. This thought overwhelmed him, Mark Hansen had died, and Captain Marvel was the cause!
Carol, now on her feet, attempted to swing again but Mar-Vell rose into the air away from her. It wasn’t her fault, none of this was, and she certainly doesn’t need to be hurt for raging against the being who killed her beloved.
The same could not be said for the Sentry. The giant robot slammed the soldiers with massive purple hand swats as it marched, ever still, towards Captain Mar-Vell. Mar picked headed straight towards him, flying slightly above the ground. It was moments before the two met and that along with Carol’s attack gave him little time to plan. Not that it would do him much good, Kree Sentries were nearly impossible to destroy.
Their “skin” was made of the hardest alloy Kree science officers could create, it was a metal very hard to create. The unique thing about the alloy was its ability to tie into the A.I. of a Sentry’s “brain”. It could repair itself with a thought, or shift its armor to a single focal point. Armed with Nega cannons in its palms, the ability for atmospheric and space flight, and programming that never allowed surrender, it was the perfect far range front attack force. Planets that were far away from the Kree armada that needed to be softened up or that had an important resource, such as a captured spy, were the ones Sentries were sent to.
He did have once chance though, the Sentry would be able to counter all the forms of Nega energy his blaster fired, but it couldn’t have been prepared for his creating a Photonic Band. It looked just like a green glove that covered his right hand and wrist, but it was so much more. The Band could channel photons, one of the building blocks of the universe, by changing light into a raw stream of power. This stream could be manipulated in many ways, he could enhance his suit’s force field, perhaps even to the point of surviving un-aided in space. It could be recycled into living organisms enhancing their healing rates even to the point of replacing the need of air and food. It could be used to lift heavy objects or, to the untrained eye, enhance a person’s strength. Finally it can also be forced out into an offensive beam of energy to cause massive damage.
The Photon Band did, like all impressive creations, have its downsides such as its power usage. Being that it ran by converting light into a power source it would need massive amounts, and fully charging it could take days depending on the light source. The second is that while the Photon Stream is being used for one task it can’t be used offensively. The last was the mental strain to keep an offensive discharge from being just a giant explosion. Much like his belt the Band was controlled neurologically, and the sheer will needed to keep the power under control would limit its use. Given these problems it’s no wonder the band has failed him or had failed to be used.
This Band was his secret weapon though and, as the Sentry drew closer he raised his palm.
“Captain Mar-Tel, Science level 2, third in the 5th house, you are under arrest for fleeing the Interstellar Kree Nazy. Turn yourself over immediately for extradition back to the courts of the Overmind.”
Mar’s eyes again had the look of confusion on them before speaking, “B… But I’m Captain Mar-Vell, scout level 1, second in the second house.”
“ZzzzzrRMrrrrR Captain Ray-Well must be brought to the Overmind!”
It’s damaged! thought Mar-Vell. I don’t understand how that could be possible? The core of a Sentry couldn’t have gotten damaged while its armor was still intact!
But there was little time for discussion as a Nega cannon fired from the robot’s palm. Feeling the heat as the energy sizzled the air behind him as he dodged through the air, Mar-Vell once again raised his palm ready to put his secret weapon into action. He concentrated, focusing his mental energies onto his palm as it began to glow. It built in brightness, growing larger and large all in a matter of tenths of a second. Then time seemed to freeze, all the energy built into his palm looked much like the symbol of an ancient star. Then time started again and a blast of energy shook the robotic titan sending it clear to the ground.
Mar-Vell flew over it, knowing full well that a Sentry could not only survive that but would begin repairing itself soon. This knowledge is what led him to be shocked when he saw what amounted to be half a robot left. An arm was entirely gone and plating had ripped all over its body, this was no normal Sentry. It had no self repairing armor, just normal hull plating, and even a casual glance would say that the Sentry was rebuilt and it had been rebuilt sub-standard.
But why? was the question that raced through his mind. He had Kree Soldiers’ information including his own, and scout information could only come from the Kree Overmind…
But his thoughts were interrupted as gunshots rang out towards him, and it suddenly occurred to Mar that Captain Marvel was wanted by the people whose base he stood in the middle of. General Wolfton and Hair gel were with a group of men heading straight for him as he hovered over the Sentry. If Mar wanted answers it would have to be fast as he flew down to the remains of the Sentry, ripping through the shattered husk of its chest plate. In a few precious moments he had ripped out the core and taken back to the air. Its information could possibly give him answers.
Wolfton puffed and wheezed as he and his men finally got to the Robot, only to watch Captain Marvel streak off into the sky.
“Damn it Mull!” He shouted, causing Hair Gel to jump a little, “We’ve been studying this man for five years and then he shows up in our camp and we can’t do a damn thing?”
“To be honest si--” Hair Gel began before being cut off.
“He’s right, Chris.” Carol Danvers walked towards them holding her arm, “That bastard brought that hunk of scrap here. He’s the one who killed Mark.” The general and Hair Gel looked at her sadly. “We need weapons. Weapons that can hurt him. Weapons that can kill him.”
